Living with Kleine-Levin Syndrome: The Unknown

With more than 100 confirmed cases in the UK, Kleine-Levin Syndrome is a rare and neurological disorder which affects young children and adults.

Episodes consist of excessive amounts of sleep, altered behaviour and a reduced understanding of the world, which can last for days, weeks or even months at a time.

Affecting one person per million people, the condition has no known cause and there is no medication available. It can take up to four years to be diagnosed, leaving those who have the syndrome and their close families emotional and confused.

Cue: A rare condition that can cause a person to sleep for up to 22 hours a day effects just over 100 people in the UK. Emily Shepherd investigates the effects Kleine-Levin Syndrome can have on one's life and their families, as well as the rarity of it all.
