Welcome: The Start of my MMP

Good morning / afternoon / evening to everyone out there who may be reading this - my name is Emily Shepherd and I am a final year Multimedia Journalism student at Bournemouth University.

This is the first official post on my blog which contributes to my Major Multimedia Project (MMP). I am making a 7-minute radio documentary about Kleine-Levin Syndrome, a rare and neurological sleeping disorder. Some may be more familiar with the term Sleeping Beauty Syndrome.

The syndrome causes people, mainly young children and adults and in particular males, to fall into an 'episode' which consists of excessive amounts of sleep, altered behaviour and a reduced understanding of the world. Episodes can last up to days, weeks or even months at a time.

With more than 100 confirmed cases in the UK, this documentary will investigate the rarity that is KLS but also the effects it may have on someone's life and their families. The aim of the documentary is to raise awareness of KLS, and I'm hoping the content I obtain will do just that to convey the seriousness of the condition.

The documentary will be live from 11th January 2018, and I will hope after listening to the full 7 minutes, you will join me on my journey to reinforce just how rare this condition is and you too, will want to raise awareness and bring light to it.
